Per Diem COVID-19 Add-On Payment for Nursing Facility and Specialized Care Rates Effective July 1, 2020

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform you that nursing facility and specialized care rates include a temporary COVID-19 $20 add-on payment effective July 1, 2020. The $20.00 per diem COVID-19 add-on payment is included in the indirect rate for nursing facilities and the final per diem rate for specialized care. The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), managed care organizations (MCOs), PACE Organizations and hospices will pay the COVID-19 add-on payment for nursing facility services until the end of the Governor’s State of Emergency related to COVID-19. Final rates, including the $20 per diem add-on, are posted on the DMAS website at http://www.dmas.virginia.gov/#/ratesetting. DMAS will send another Bulletin when the temporary add-on payment is ended.
Please note that temporary COVID-19 add-on payments effective for dates of service between March 12 and June 30, 2020 were to be paid retrospectively through a supplemental payment subject to reconciliation (June dates of service have yet to be reimbursed but will continue under the supplemental payment process according to the previous guidance) . Nursing facility and specialized care COVID-19 add-on payments are relevant to the delivery of covered services related to COVID-19 detection and treatment, as well as maximizing access to care and minimizing viral spread within the community. In order to be reimbursed for services provided to a managed care enrolled individual, providers must follow their respective contract with the managed care plan/PACE provider. The managed care plan may utilize different guidelines than those described for Medicaid feefor-service individuals. |
